Part Seven
The Warning That Has to Close This Part
Here is the last piece, and it is not a fourth question to add to the list above. It is a caution about what happens after you have started passing the test consistently — because there is a real danger waiting on the far side of getting this right, and it deserves to be named as directly as everything else in this book has tried to be named.
⚠ The disciple who has correctly learned to see a whole system before adopting it carries a specific risk: the quiet pride of being the one who sees clearly what other Christians only accept in scattered pieces. Poverty of spirit does not permit good discernment to become a credential — least of all discernment aimed at two other views held by people who love Christ as sincerely as you do.
Read that warning again, slowly, because it is aimed directly at the reader who has just finished this part of the book and is, quite naturally, feeling a little more confident than they were a hundred pages ago. You can ask all three questions correctly, every single time, for the rest of your entire life — seeing every system whole, opening every cited verse, never once letting an unexamined assumption slip past you — and still lose the one thing this whole book has been pointing toward from its very first page, if the asking itself quietly becomes something you take pride in, rather than something you simply do, with the same empty hands Part One and Part Two and every part since has kept asking you to bring. Getting the timeline right was never, at any point, the actual goal of this book. Knowing Him was. It still is. It is the only goal this book has ever had.
